About Ellen

Ellen has written for the web for ten years, including three years at Bauer Media writing about products and the home for titles such as A Modern Kitchen and Modern Gardens. Most of that work was research: comparing products side by side until the one worth buying was clear.

She grew up between Wales and Canada. Her grandparents’ kitchen in Wales was the family hub, with long-lasting pans, a pot of tea always ready and never any over-buying, and that is still how she thinks about a home.

A home should feel like a sanctuary from the outside world, but also a place where people gather, connect and feel welcome.

After years of travel and a London flat, she is now setting up a new home in the Austrian Alps one considered choice at a time: stainless steel and cast iron in the kitchen, cotton and wool in the bedroom, warm light in the evening.

On a weekend you’ll find her back from the farmers market with a bag of seasonal vegetables, cooking for friends and family, or out on a mountain trail.
